In Upper School Visual and Digital Media, emphasis is placed on the visualization of ideas, development of originality and craftsmanship, and presentation of the completed artwork.
All Visual Arts courses enable students to build fundamental knowledge and skillsets in a variety of techniques from painting and drawing, to ceramic glazing and firing, architecture and urban planning, visualization and printmaking.
In addition, students may elect to take Art History courses that focus on aesthetics, art appreciation, the principles of design and a critical analysis of art forms, pre-historic through modern times.
Photography I and II learn basic composition and thematic concepts, darkroom and digital skills, and work to develop a strong portfolio of images.
In Digital Applications I and II, students learn basic skills of shooting and editing video in digital formats. In both classes, students learn to work in the school’s television studio to produce the school’s news program,
Mav TV.
Student artwork can be seen on display throughout the school year in the Clare Attwell Glassell Gallery and around the Upper School Campus. Plus, we hold several annual exhibits—please visit the
arts calendar to learn about any upcoming events.
