St. John’s School seeks a talented and knowledgeable full-time Middle School Nurse to start August 2025. In addition to relevant experience and a strong pediatric background, successful candidates must demonstrate a passion for working with middle school-aged students and a commitment to furthering the School’s mission, including its strategic initiatives on community and inclusion.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide direct care to students for injuries, acute illness, and chronic health conditions
Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and school policy
Identify community health concerns in accordance with established school health protocols
Establish and maintain an accurate clinic inventory, including storage and tracking process for all medication and supplies handled within the Clinical Services Department
Maintain complete, accurate, and timely student records
Communicate effectively with clinical team, school administration, parents/guardians, and health care providers
Review medical reports and interpret them for appropriate administrative action, consulting with the Director of Clinical Services as necessary
Conduct health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis) and complete state-required reports annually
Provide training for staff on health-related topics, including medication administration, seizure response, and epi-pen use
Participate in grade-level experiential overnight school trips each year
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Active Registered Nurse license, issued by the Texas State Board of Nursing
Minimum three years of nursing experience, school nursing and pediatric experience preferred.
Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED Usage
Strong assessment and documentation skills and the ability to make sound clinical decisions under pressure
Knowledge of childhood illnesses, immunization requirements, and health screening
Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary school team
