Middle/Upper School Theatre (starting August 2025)

St. John’s School is seeking a full-time Theatre teacher. The ideal candidate will enjoy working primarily with middle school students (grades 6-8). Theatre teachers at St. John’s work together to create a cohesive curriculum that builds from Middle to Upper School. St. John’s School seeks educators who are innovative in their approach, open to feedback, and thrive in a collaborative environment. We expect members of our community to engage in conversations that support ongoing professional development and interdisciplinary opportunities. In addition to relevant experience and a strong educational background, successful candidates must demonstrate a collaborative spirit and a commitment to furthering the School’s mission, including its strategic initiatives on community and inclusion.
Primary responsibilities:
Teach Middle School Theatre Electives
Serve as an advisor
Direct (1-2) after-school theatre productions a year within the Middle and Upper School Theatre programs
Collaborate and coordinate closely with the theatre, dance, and music faculty
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Theatre/Theatre Education; Master’s or Master of Fine Arts degree preferred
Minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience
Experience in classroom theatre curriculum and directing theatre for young audiences
Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
Experience with playwriting, technical theatre or film production a plus
