Coming together in sharing circles is the first step in developing SEL classrooms. Through participating in sharing circles, students develop a sense of responsiveness to other people's feelings and opinions, and they are able to deepen their capacity to share and open their hearts and minds to needs of others.
During each 8-day rotation, students gather to discuss an important social emotional skill based on the CASEL 5 competencies. Discussions are designed with the developmental age of each class considered. Additionally, students are introduced to mindfulness strategies and practice them during sharing circles and morning connections with the expectation that they will utilize their mindfulness practice throughout the day, both inside and outside of school.
